Limited Release of Sankt Gallen Barley Wine & Wheat Wine

SanktGallen is going to release el Diablo – Barley Wine and Un angel – Wheat Wine in November.

・Barley wine is a style of strong ale of 8-12% ABV, first brewed in England in the 1870s. Use of the word wine is due to its alcoholic strength similar to a wine.
・Wheat wine is a variation on the barley wine style, which uses a large quantity of wheat instead of barley. It is a relatively recent American craft beer style that was first brewed in the 1980s.

Characteristics of them: wine-like alcoholic strength, very rich ,complex and strongly malty aroma and flavor, strong fruitiness and sweetness, full-bodied and chewy mouthfeel.
Which come from much larger amount of barley/wheat and hops they use. They also take longer time to brew, usually a year or more.

el Diablo is brewed with massive amount of hops to balance with malt flavor; which causes.strong hoppiness and bitterness. In contrast, Un angel is brewed with wheat and relatively smaller amount of hops; which results in smooth mouthfeel and sweetness.
Both styles pair wonderfully with big-flavored foods such as meat dishes, aged cheeses and rich desserts.

Sanktgallen bottles them one by one by hand, with live yeast inside. And thanks to high ABV, they can be aged for years; you can enjoy their taste changing year by year (up to 5 years).
